UPDATE: Adoption of dog with two noses fell through

Update: According to the Daily Record, the adoption of Snuffles has fallen through. For more information, please visit The Dogs Trust Glasglow Rehoming Centre. (The original post follows.)

As a puppy, Snuffles was shunned and no one was interested in adopting the unique BelgianShepherd. Born with a rare congenital defect, the pooch has a split nose and four separate nostrils. What’s more, each one can move independently of the other.

“Instead of his nostrils being fused together he’s got some sort of split there,” veterinarian Angela McAllister says. “It’s a defect in his palate which gives him the appearance of having two noses as his nostrils can move completely independently of each other. I’ve never seen the condition in my 20-year career.”

Aside from his appearance, Snuffles is a perfectly normal and healthy dog. But no one wanted him.

Shunned by perspective owners, the pooch watched as all other dogs around him were adopted, as he went through four homes throughout Scotland.

But when the 5-month-old landed at The Dogs Trust Glasgow Rehoming Centre, the staff was determined to find him a home. Staff personnel nicknamed him Snuffles (his original name was Diesel).

“We take in hundreds of dogs of all shapes and sizes but I’ve never seen anything quite like Snuffles, facility manager Sarah Lawton told the Mirror. “It is such a shame to think that this sweet-natured lad may not find the loving home he deserves just because some don’t consider him a pretty pooch.”

After a plea to find the pooch a home, and the viral effects of social media, a tidal wave of offers arrived. The head of the DTGRC, Pamela Jackson, said the worldwide offers to adopt the dog came from Britain, South Africa, and the United States, and some people showed up at the shelter in hopes of adopting the pooch as well.

Snuffles was eventually adopted by a family who live in a large house East Lothian, Scotland, with plenty of land. The new owners say the dog is exactly who they were looking for.
