When a dog goes missing it’s always a difficult time for any dog parent. However, there are reasons never to give up hope.

Previous dog parents in Cornwall, 300 miles away, reported a dog found on the busy M11 freeway in Essex missing, seven years ago. A good Samaritan found the canine on the road in the town of Harlow on Oct. 22, running between cars, and brought her to a local veterinarian.

The dog’s previous parent microchipped her, meaning that the vet could find out her name – Ruby. However, there were no further details.

Reported Missing but a Lack of Information

Lauren Benge, who found Ruby, explained that she brought the dog to Kew Vets, who told CornwallLive that they called the number on the microchip, but that it rang and went to voicemail. Staff left a message, but they think somebody has either been blocked or disconnected the number.

“The dog is still with us now but today or tomorrow it will go to the dog warden,” explained a member of staff. “The vets are hoping that someone will recognize the dog and have information that will lead to returning it home. The original missing dog post has received over 300 comments and 7,500 shares at the time of writing this.

Meanwhile, DogLost UK are involved too. Though there were no definite matches in their database, a dog listed as reported missing from the Essex city of Southend in 2014 fitted Ruby’s name and description. Ruby may have had another parent at some time or another.

Long-Awaited Reunions

Amazingly, some dogs have been reunited with their parents after ten years or even longer. Earlier this year, 22-year-old Tae Bennett reunited with her Chihuahua, Ollie, ten years after thieves took the canine from her.

Miraculously, children playing in a park around 20 miles from her home in London found Ollie, now 12. Bennett got a new dog, Dachshund Chilli, after giving up hope of ever finding Ollie, but the two canines have been getting on great.
