The American Kennel Club just announced the return of its “Meet the Breeds” dog exhibition. For the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the event’s cancellation.

According to an official press release, New York City will host the event on Jan. 28 and 29, 2023. Inside the Jacob K. Javits Center, dog lovers from around the country will have “the unique opportunity to meet and play with hundreds of adorable dogs and puppies while learning about responsible pet ownership.”

AKC Executive Director Gina DiNardo said in an official statement, We are thrilled to return to the Javits Center to host AKC Meet the Breeds after two years. The Javits Center provides a unique and sizable space for us to create a one-of-a-kind experience, engage with the public, offer opportunities to learn from breed experts representing their clubs and dogs and see exciting demonstrations of canine athleticism.”

Meet the Breeds, but Stay for the Show

The event is one of AKC’s most anticipated every year. Prestigious breeders and their pups volunteer their time to educate the public and showcase their breeds. With over 100 breeds on display, the event is sure to be a draw for any and every dog lover. Additionally, the event will feature a ‘Demo Ring’, where dogs will showcase their athletic talents in different sports and agility courses. Also, an interactive center will have games, photo opportunities, as well as a human agility course. Here, any willing contender can attempt to complete a human-sized agility course. AKC’s website warns dog parents that the course may not be as easy as it appears.

Finally, the event is featuring a variety of vendors hawking their dog-centric wares. Meanwhile, rescue organizations will be helping anyone seeking to adopt their own furry companion – you can find out more about the breeds here. Although the chance to interact with breeders and their dogs is surely a treat, Dogtime always promotes adopting a dog over buying from breeders. As always, we recommend that you ‘adopt, don’t shop’.
