Ralph the Cavapoo ran off during a walk with his dog mom on Monday (Feb. 13) in the city of Wrexham in Wales, and ended up on a 100-mile adventure, The Mirror reports.
Dog mom Georgia Crewe had stopped for a moment to talk to another dog parent on the early morning walk in Gresford Quarry, when Ralph saw the opportunity to escape. And when his dog mom called out for him, he didn’t respond.
Unbeknownst to her, as she spent the morning searching for her pup, Ralph had actually jumped into an open taxi that was heading to Manchester Airport.
Heading to the Airport
“We always get up early in the morning and go for a walk,” Georgia explained. “It was dark. He’s normally really good on his walks. But I turned around and he wasn’t there.
“At that point in the quarry, where we were walking, I could pick four different directions to go. So I picked our normal direction, but he didn’t turn up.
“We spent the next three hours walking and looking for him. We had friends and locals looking for him, but there was no head nor tail of him.”
But four hours later, Georgia got a phone call from a woman called Becky, who’s friends with the taxi driver.
“Ralph had been walking in a direction towards home,” Georgia said. “He was obviously cold, and a cab pulled up to pick up a family going to the airport for a holiday.
“The cabby tried to keep him warm, and the people going to the airport were really nice.
“He had dropped the family at the airport, and then the cabby made his way back to his house. His friend Becky looked on Facebook and gave us a call.”
Back Together Again
As there was no identification visible on Ralph’s collar, the taxi driver let him stay in the car for the time being – and the other passengers didn’t mind a furry friend joining them.
Once the driver dropped the passengers off at the airport, he took Ralph back to his home as he tried to search for his dog parent. But fortunately, later that morning, Georgia and Ralph were reunited.
And now, Ralph has a new collar and a geotag too, in case he decides to escape again.
“He’s my baby. He’s super intelligent and it’s really uncharacteristic for him to disappear,” said Georgia. “He got back home, had a big breakfast, and has slept most of the day.”
