A dog chose a baby’s name for a New Jersey couple after partaking in a gender reveal. The festivities were a unique twist on rituals for expectant parents.
Golden Retriever participates in gender reveal
Erica and Frank Derise live in Monmouth County, New Jersey, with their 2-year-old dog Beau. “We incorporate Beau into every major life event. He needs to be involved in everything,” Erica told SWNS, according to Fox News. The 27-year-old content creator added: “He’s like our kid — we want him to be a part of things.”

So the Golden Retriever (also known as @beaunosebones) partook in the gender reveal at the urging of his social media followers. Beau bit into a cake – and the pink hue inside revealed the couple was having a girl.
However, that information, gleaned during a blood test at 10 weeks gestation, turned out to be wrong. An ultrasound later in the pregnancy showed that the baby was actually a boy, so Beau got to do the gender reveal cake ritual all over again!

Dog chooses name for baby
Then, the couple tasked the dog with choosing a name for the baby boy. They threw a trio of tennis balls, each bearing the name of a boy: Liam, Andrew, and Frankie. Beau retrieved the “Frankie” ball, so the family named their new member accordingly.

“We were kind of undecided whether we wanted to go down the Frankie route because of [dad] Frank’s name, but he’s going to be called Frankie and on his birth certificate it’ll say Frank,” Erica said. “We’re so excited for Beau to meet the baby.”
Frankie is one lucky little baby; he’ll always have a special story about how his dog chose his name.
