‘Twilight’ stars adopt new dog

Twilight fans and dog lovers can both rejoice this week as news breaks of a new addition to the Stewart-Pattinson household.

Longtime couple Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who were until recently on the rocks after a cheating scandal, seem to be going stronger than ever — so much so that the pair decided to add to their four-legged brood by adopting another dog from a high-kill shelter. Their first dog, mixed breed dog Bear, was also a rescue pet; the couple adopted him last year from a shelter in Louisiana.

Bernie, also a mixed breed, is an adult dog, and she didn’t have much time left at the shelter where the Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 star was browsing. When Stewart and Bernie locked eyes, though, Stewart knew that Bernie was definitely the perfect pooch for her.

“She was very emotionally manipulative,” Stewart jokingly said of Bernie during an interview on Live! With Kelly and Michael earlier this week. “She really milked it.”

“They’re really very different,” Stewart said of Bear and Bernie. “I feel like I’ve raised Bear, whereas Bernie, we got her when she was like four, five—we’re not positive—but she feels like my roommate. She’s just like living in my house.”

Bernie apparently fit right in with Bear, whom Stewart has described as her child.

“Then I got her home and she was like, ‘I am fine,” Stewart said of Bernie. “She was taking Bear’s stuff, [and] I was like, ‘You need to slow your roll!’”

Stewart is happy with her and Pattinson’s decision to adopt dogs in need.

“I’m just sort of obsessed with rescuing the pooches,” Stewart added.

Meanwhile Pattinson is set to appear on today’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show with Twilight series co-star Taylor Lautner. In a sneak-peak of their interview, Pattinson tells DeGeneres of his love for Bear, the first dog that he and Stewart adopted together.

“He was like five weeks old,” Pattinson said of Bear, who went from sitting on top of the shelter’s euthanasia list to living in the lap of luxury in the same day. “He was in a five day kill shelter and it was his fourth day,” said Pattinson.

Not long after the adoption was finalized, Pattinson and Bear took a trip back to Los Angeles. “A couple of days later, just by coincidence, I had to go back to L.A.,” Pattinson remembers, “and we had a private plane. So I took [Bear] from the worst pound in Monroe, Louisiana and he was sitting on a private jet the next day.”

Having a famous actor for your dad certainly does have its perks, as Bear well knows.

“We were staying at the Four Seasons after that and I didn’t have any dog food, so I got him a plate of prosciutto,” the heartthrob said.
