Adopt-A-Dog animal rescue

Dogtime’s Road to Rescue program salutes New York’s Adopt-A-Dog animal rescue.

How did your organization get started?

The organization was started in 1981 by three friends in Greenwich, Connecticut, who saw a need to get homes for needy animals.

A wooden skewer was found in Big Rocky’s chest

What is your mission?

Our mission is to find permanent loving homes for the animals in our care.

How do most of your animals find their way to you?

Most of our animals come from private homes or other shelters.

What happens to the animals once they are in your care?

The animals remain in our care until placement is found for them.

Tell us about a particularly compelling animal or inspiring rescue.

A current special rescue story is “Big Rocky”. He’s a Rottweiler who came from the south and needed surgery due to the discovery of a wooden barbecue skewer inside his chest. He has made it through this surgery and previous serious injuries that he incurred before coming to us. This dog is a survivor and we can’t wait to get him a new, loving home.
