Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Saves His New Pup From Drowning

Action movie star and pro wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spent Labor Day weekend with two adorable new additions to his family. Brutus and Hobbs, his cute French Bulldog puppies, got into a bit of trouble while learning to go potty outside like big dogs.

Here's a fun Labor Day weekend story… We just decided to add two new members to our Johnson family. Baby French Bulldogs. In my right hand is BRUTUS and in my left hand is HOBBS. Bring them home and immediately take them outside so they can start learning how to "handle their business and potty like big boys". I set them both down and they both take off in a full sprint and fall right into the deep end of our pool. HOBBS immediately starts doggy paddling while BRUTUS (like a brick) sink heads first to the bottom of the pool. I take off into a full sprint, fully clothed, dive in the pool, swim to the bottom, rescue my brick, I mean BRUTUS and bring him back to the edge of the pool. He was a little delirious.. took a moment, threw up all the water he swallowed and looked up at me as if to say, "Thank God you didn't have to give me mouth to mouth!" and then ran off to play with his brother. A few lessons I've learned today.. A) Not all puppies have the instinct to doggie paddle. B) Some puppies (like BRUTUS) will be so in shock by experiencing water they will sink extremely fast so react quick. C) While spiriting to save your puppies life, before you dive in, try and throw your cel phone to safety. Don't keep it in your pocket… like I did. #BRUTUSLives #HOBBSCanSwim #MyCelPhonesDead #AndNoMouthToMouthNeeded #HappyLaborDay

When Johnson set the pups down, they took off for the deep end of the swimming pool. Hobbs used his natural instincts to doggy paddle, but Brutus must have missed nature’s swimming lessons because he sank to the bottom of the pool. The Rock, being the action star that he is, dove into the pool, clothes on, and brought Brutus to the surface safely tucked in the people’s elbow. Though if he had kept an eye on the pups in the first place, he would have never had to take a dip.

Once Brutus was back on shore, he threw up all the water he swallowed. The only casualty was Johnson’s cell phone, which didn’t survive the trip to the bottom of the pool. Luckily, this new dog owner learned that not all pups are born with the swimming instinct before anything truly terrible happened. You can read the whole story on his Instagram, complete with a picture of the waterlogged pups.

This is an important lesson for all new dog owners. It is very irresponsible to let your pup loose near water if you don’t know their abilities or behavior. Even then, someone should always keep watch. The Rock was lucky that all he lost was a phone, as it could have been much worse. We’re all glad the pup is safe, but hopefully this is a wake up call to treat puppies like animals that need love and care. They aren’t toys.
