Officer Montgomery giving his new potential family member some lovin'. Thank you for all you do for our community and for adopting from PAWS!

As a dog lover, you might find it difficult to set foot in an animal shelter without bringing home a new furry family member. That's certainly the case for Officer Marcus Montgomery of the Fort Walton Beach Police Department. He responded to a routine call at the local Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) shelter, and while he was performing his investigation he saw a puppy that stole his heart.
Officer Montgomery told shelter workers "Don't bring him in here or else I will take him home right now." But the shelter workers brought the pup in to meet Montgomery anyway. The puppy licked his nose, and that was it. Montgomery had to bring him home. He named the dog Kylo after the Star Wars character and took him to meet the family dog, Vader, a Pit Bull Terrier--also named after a Star Wars character--that was also adopted from the shelter.
Montgomery was also touched by Kylo's story. He had been left in a box outside of the shelter in below freezing temperatures. Thinking about the puppy sitting out there, crying, all alone broke the officer's heart. He hopes that his story will inspire people to give adoptable dogs a chance. He believes people should visit their local shelter and give a dog a new lease on life.
Are you glad Kylo found love and a new home? Do you find it hard to leave the shelter without bringing home a new family member? Let us know in the comments below!
