  • Hormone changes
  • Low sperm count
  • Congenital factors
  • Not being able to ejaculate

Additionally, very young and very old dogs can suffer from the condition due to their age.

Treatments for Infertility in Male Dogs

Firstly, your vet will ask about your dog’s symptoms. Secondly, your vet will ask about your dog’s full medical history. This will include any previous matings.

Thirdly, your dog’s prostate will be tested. This is to detect any infections. Additionally, your dog’s semen will be taken and analyzed.

Generally, treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the condition. For instance, behavior-based problems can be addressed. Usually, this is through making changes to the breeding environment.

Additionally, reducing any drugs that are causing the issue can be considered. Also, hormone therapy can be used to normalize your dog’s hormones.

Finally, in cases involving an infection, antibiotics can be prescribed. As always, if your vet prescribes your dog any medicine, make sure to stick to the correct dose and frequency instructions. Also, complete the full course of medicine.
