Our take: You just heat this round thick disc in the microwave and it stays warm for up to 10 hours. It’s too warm right out of the microwave to place directly next to the skin, so you slide it under the cover of your dog’s bed, or a blanket. Or you can buy a fleece cover for it. There’s no worrying about it overheating or shorting out, and no worrying about a dog possibly chewing part of it and getting hurt.
The dogs weigh in: It’s fairly thick so it can create a warm lump on which to sleep, and Fred thought it was too thick. Ginger wouldn’t stay on it. Our basenji friends, however, zero in on this like white on rice, and their mom has bought several over the years to use while she commutes to work on cool mornings; the late Kiwi loved these in her last years when she was always seeking extra warmth.
