It’s Saturday morning: You can sleep in, watch TV, sleep in…or get some exercise with your pooch and join in the fight against cancer, a disease that is the second most common cause of death in the U.S. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately half a million Americans are projected to die from the disease in 2013.
Dog owners can show their support for cancer awareness and research on August 24, 2013, as the American Cancer Society, DogTime.com, and a host of other sponsors present the annual Bark For Life event at Golden Gate Park’s Hellman Hollow in San Francisco.
Interested parties can register online prior to, or in person at, the event. You can register as an individual, start a team of your own, or find an already existing team. All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and be on a leash.
Featuring a noncompetitive walk for dogs and their humans, Bark For Life also has a games, contests, cancer-survivor testimonials, volunteer opportunities, and more. You can also meet the DogTime team, who will be on hand at the event.
Plus, dog owners who think their pooch is the most adorable can put it to the test with the My Dog Is Cuter contest. Two dogs will be selected as winners from the nominees, with voting slated to take place online and at the event. Visit the My Dog Is Cuter page for more information. Entries must be received by August 16 and the entry fee is $10. Winners will be announced on September 1.
