This AFP/Getty picture was taken on Saturday, the second consecutive day that the dog refused to leave the woman’s grave at the cemetery in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janiero.”
Not much need for further commentary. Inspiring and heartbreaking (infinitely more the latter), the photo captures the unfailing devotion, authenticity, and maybe most of all, vulnerability of humankind’s best friend.
How can we treat this species with anything less than unwavering care and respect? Who can argue that spay/neuter is not of the highest importance, so that we aren’t “forced” to euthanize millions of innocent animals each year? And in what twisted world is it ok to allow those who would maim and torture our family members to freely roam the streets, let alone make millions of dollars and receive a hero’s classification?
