Country music star Miranda Lambert, who sang “America the Beautiful” with her husband Blake Shelton before the Super Bowl on Sunday, lost her dog Dixie late last week. The animal rights advocate has owned the dog since she was 8 years old.
“My dog died Thursday,” Lambert said in a Twitter post. “My parents just told me. Headed now to bury my friend of 20 years.
“I hope what they say is right. ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’”
Lambert’s Muttnation Foundation hosts and organizes the annual Cause for the Paws event in Texas. All proceeds go to benefit animal shelters and the Humane Society of East Texas.
The loss of her dog is the latest in a string of heartaches for Lambert. Earlier this year, the 28-year-old Grammy Award winner lost her childhood friend Mark Adams in an auto accident, and her father-in-law Dick Shelton.
Lambert is currently touring to promote her latest album, Four the Record.
