A family in the Washington city of Lacey have started a GoFundMe after their dogs were brutally attacked last Monday (Mar. 20), King 5 News reports.
Around 11 p.m. somebody entered the family’s backyard in the Aldea Glen community. They then beat and cut their dogs using a knife.
Emergency Vet Care Required After Pet Dog Attack
Per Lacey Sgt. Jeremy Knight, one of the family’s four dogs managed to escape, but was missing for a few hours afterward. He was told that the owners found the sheath to a knife in the yard, and detectives were assigned to the case on Mar. 23.
One of the dogs needed urgent veterinary care with lacerations on their back and neck, including one that was several inches long and went down to the bone. The other two dogs went to a non-emergency veterinarian later on last week. Unfortunately, their injuries were more severe than first thought. One dog had lacerations on their head, and looked as if they’d been stabbed with a knife, while another was hit so hard they lost a tooth.
The surgeries needed cost the family $7,200. The fundraiser has a target of $10,000 to cover all vet bills, and as of today (Mar. 27) generous donors have raised $8,839.
A Plea for Information
Lynn Jenkins organized the GoFundMe. She said that she wasn’t at home at the time of the pet dog attack, but that her roommate heard the dogs screaming outside. When the roommate yelled at the man attacking the dogs, he ran off and jumped the fence to get away.
According to Knight, the owners gave a description of the suspect. They said he fits the profile of a man who often works in the neighborhood. He asked anyone with information or footage that could help to call LPD at 360-459-4333.
