Normally, when you hear a story about an animal getting into a sticky situation involving a tree, it’s a cat. Being stranded in between branches is practically feline folklore. But one New Hampshire dog managed to do not only the impossible, but the improbable – by getting his head stuck in a tree.
Dog gets stuck in tree
According to the Milford Fire Department, some kind of critter enticed a dog while out on a walk. Then, the dog chased it toward a tree. The pup was determined to catch their prey. So the dog such stuck his head directly into a hole in the trunk of a tree – then couldn’t get his noggin out!
“My husband and I decided to take a walk on the trail in Milford and our dog, Gracie, went after something in the tree and got her head stuck,” the dog’s owner, Kimberly Schumacher, wrote in a post on WMUR-TV’s public Facebook group, u local New Hampshire.
Schumacher emphasized that the dog was on a leash when the incident occurred. No one knows what the critter was, though the best guess is a squirrel, a chipmunk, or a rabbit.
Firefighters pull dog out of tree
The local fire department responded to Schumacher’s call for help.
“We called them and they came right out and rescued her,” Schumacher wrote. “They were very responsive, kind, and gentle. They had to cut parts of the tree to get her out.”
The Milford Fire Department shared pictures from the harrowing rescue on Facebook.
“On April 28th the Milford Fire Department was dispatched to a reported dog who’s [sic] head was stuck in a tree behind the Boys and Girls Club,” the caption read. “MFD responded and worked to help free the dog. After a short time the dog was removed without injury. Great job MFD crew!”
Social media users showered the comments section with love – and a little snark.
“Bet he won’t do that again,” Facebook user Justin Lavoie wrote.
“But did you also save the squirrel he was chasing?” Joe Vallier asked.
“Bugs Bunny Strikes Again,” Colin Fletcher wrote alongside a GIF of the infamous cartoon character.
