It’s the doggy legal drama that just won’t quit. Pop superstar and Academy Award-winner Lady Gaga wants a lawsuit over a $500,000 dog reward dismissed.
Lady Gaga doggy drama continues
On Feb. 24, 2021, Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, was strolling with the singer’s three French Bulldogs near Sunset Boulevard when he was attacked and shot in the chest. Assailants stole two of the Frenchies.
According to court papers, the singer also known as Stefani J. Germanotta took to Twitter to offer a reward of $500,000 for the pups’ safe return. Later that day, a woman named Jennifer McBride returned the dog to the Los Angeles Police Department. She claimed that she stumbled upon the dogs by chance and was simply being a good Samaritan by returning them.
The LAPD began making arrests related to the dog theft. It didn’t take a genius to connect the dots, and soon authorities arrested and charged McBride for participating in the crime, too. She pleaded no contest to knowingly receiving stolen property. She received two years probation at a sentencing hearing in December.
Dog theft ordeal goes to court
The story should have ended there. Instead, McBride sued Lady Gaga for breach of contract and fraud because the singer did not pay the dog reward money.
According to CBS News, “Plaintiff McBride alleges in a complaint filed Feb. 24 in Los Angeles Superior Court that the singer defrauded her into surrendering the pets with the promise that no questions would be posed if the pets were returned.”
Even more egregious, McBride now wants compensation for pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and legal fees!
Lady Gaga’s lawyers claim that McBride tried to make bank off her own crime.
“The law does not allow a person to commit a crime and then profit from it,” they stated in the court papers.
We’ll see what a judge thinks of Lady Gaga’s dog reward lawsuit dismissal motion at a July 10 hearing.
