Virginia Couple Reschedules Wedding To Adopt Puppy

An animal-loving Virginia couple rescheduled their wedding ceremony to be able to pick an extra special guest for their big day — a 4-month-old German Shepherd puppy, reported People Magazine.

On the very day that 21-year-old Eduardo Del Pozo and Regan Mast, 22, said “I do,” they added a new furry member to their union. Growing their family was something the newlyweds wanted to do sooner rather than later. What they didn’t expect was their dog adoption plans to coincide with their wedding date.

It all began with a visit to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter’s main campus on Oct. 26 to look for a rescue puppy. This visit happened two days before their wedding ceremony, slated for Oct. 28, starting at 11 a.m.

Wedding start time rescheduled for a chance to adopt dream dog

While at the animal shelter, a staff member revealed to the pair that Daisy, a German Shepherd puppy, would soon be ready for adoption. Del Pozo received this piece of news with joy since he had, according to PEOPLE, grown up around German Shepherds. This made him develop a soft spot for the popular breed.

The employee explained to the interested couple that the shelter was opening a new branch in Lorton on Oct. 28. As such, Daisy, along with other animals, would be up for adoption at the shelter’s grand opening on a first-come, first-served basis.

The only problem? Fairfax County’s newest shelter’s scheduled grand opening fell on the same day and time as the couple’s wedding ceremony — Oct. 28 at 11 a.m.

Nothing could stop the couple from meeting the German Shepherd pup

Fixated on bringing their fur baby home, the couple had to change the start time of their wedding ceremony. They informed their officiant, family, and guests of their decision to move the ceremony from 11 a.m. to 9 a.m.

When their big day finally arrived, Del Pozo and Mast exchanged vows, snapped a few photos, and then left for the shelter’s grand opening.

“I was in my suit, and she was still in her dress,” the groom narrated.

Rebecca Cavedon, the shelter’s communications manager, shared that the newlyweds were the first in line to adopt the puppy. The pair walked in just as the staff were cutting the ceremonial ribbon at the new branch.

As expected, it was a heartwarming moment when the couple finally met Daisy. “It was love at first sight,” Mast said. “She’s so sweet.”

The newlyweds were elated to follow up their “I do” with a dog adoption. Everyone at the grand opening was in awe of their decision too.

“Pets are part of our family,” said the shelter’s communications manager, Cavedon. “To see that they got married literally that morning and then added to their family — and the joy that brought them, just made us all smile and made our day.” Continuing, she said, “it made a really special day for us even better.”

The fairy-tale ending that melted hearts online

After adopting the dog, the pair headed back for their wedding reception with the furry love of their life. Without delay, the two were eager to surprise their clueless guests with the big reveal.

“It symbolized us starting our own family,” the groom said. “My wife and I are beyond excited.”

Undeniably, the pup became the spotlight of their celebration, and the couple enjoyed the wedding reception of a lifetime. And, what was always meant to be a day to remember turned out to be Daisy’s big day, too!
