Rossdale shared a touching caption for the Instagram post. “This is the last post I ever wanted to write. So regretfully…We buried chewy today. We lost him suddenly a few days ago,” it reads. He further shared that he’s “heartbroken” and that his house “feels different” following his pup’s death.

Rossdale described Chewy as his “absolute little furry bestie,” adding he “can’t stop thinking about him even if” it looks “like I’m doing something else.” Continuing, he shared, “He was the one there through all my hardest and loneliest times.”

“He was magic. Love your pets. Love your people. Love yourself better,” the singer added.

The post was flooded with condolence messages from Rossdale’s friends and fans. Nik Hughes, the drummer of Bush, said, “Chewy was/is the best!”

Keith Wallen, the lead singer of Breaking Benjamin, wrote, “I’m so sorry Gavin. We all loved Chewy.”

TV host Allison Hagendorf also shared her reaction to the news. “Oh Gavin, I am so sorry to hear about Chewy,” Hagendorf commented. “I am so grateful I got to meet this special soul. Sending you so much love.”

Gavin Rossdale’s dog was injured last year

Last year, Chewy suffered from an injury during a dental procedure. Rossdale later took to Instagram to share an update about his dog’s condition. He said the resilient dog had been recovering well despite several complications.

“He’s a soldier and is coming through his own war,” the singer captioned the post. He added that Chewy was learning to walk again after “a procedure that went horribly wrong.”

“Then he developed meningitis which means between the two disasters he has had to learn to walk again,” he continued. “He stayed home from tour to get better. Slowly slowly.”
