Puppy Bowl Welcomes New Orleans’ Dachshund Named ‘Beignet’

The highly anticipated Puppy Bowl XX is scheduled to air on Animal Planet on Sunday, Feb. 11 and Beignet, a baby Dachshund mix from New Orleans, is all set to steal the show.

Dachshund is one of several rescue dogs competing in the 2024 Puppy Bowl

Puppy Bowl is an event dedicated to highlighting shelter dogs before the Super Bowl. Beignet is a rescue Dachshund mix from Take Paws Rescue, living in New Orleans. The little canine is part of “Team Fluff” in Puppy Bowl XX. The grand celebration for this champion took place on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the New Orleans International Airport.

The rescue dog’s path to Puppy Bowl stardom started amidst adversity. His mother abandoned him at birth. Due to this, the tiny pup depended on the care and devotion of volunteers from Take Paws Rescue. They bottle-fed him until he reached six weeks old.

This compassionate upbringing not only gave Beignet a new chance in life but also propelled him toward becoming a beloved figure on the national stage.

As Beignet gears up for his television debut, Take Paws Rescue seizes this moment to convey an important message. Operating at full capacity, the shelter implores the public to prioritize spaying and neutering pets to curb the growing homeless pet population. Through advocating for responsible pet ownership, the rescue organization aims to positively impact animals in need. Additionally, by fostering an environment of adoption, they strive to make a difference in the lives of these animals.

At the New Orleans International Airport, Beignet’s journey to stardom was celebrated. It fittingly marks the ascent of a pup into the limelight. Named “Beignet’s big paw-ty,” the event not only honors the little dog’s accomplishments but also underscores the significance of supporting shelters and their furry animals.

As Beignet’s tale unfolds on the national stage, his message of hope and resilience will resonate across vast audiences. From his modest beginnings to his anticipated Puppy Bowl debut, this tiny Dachshund mix exemplifies how love and encouragement can uplift even the smallest of contenders to become champions.
