Animal Shelter ‘Overflowing’ With Puppies in Massachusetts

An animal shelter in Salem, Massachusetts, is desperately in need of adopters because their facility is currently “overflowing” with puppies.

On Tuesday, March 19, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell (MSPCA-Angell) took to Facebook to announce that its Northeast Animal Shelter is facing an overpopulation crisis and is therefore looking for forever homes for dozens of puppies.

Animal shelter looking for adopters due to overcapacity

Part of the MSPCA-Angell’s Facebook post read: “We are overflowing with puppies at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem! Seriously, come adopt please!”

According to Fox28 SAVANNAH, the shelter has “30 puppies that are three-months-old or younger and 51 total dogs under the age of two-years-old that are available for adoption.”

Sara-Rose Brenner, the MSPCA-Angell’s senior public relations manager, told the news outlet that a majority of the puppies comprise mixed breeds, including mixes of Pit Bull Terriers, Great Danes, Labrador Retrievers, and Siberian Huskies.

Brenner shared that the youngest puppies are still “learning the ropes of pup life.”

As per the Boston News reporting, all the puppies available for adoption have undergone spaying or neutering. They are also fully vaccinated. The MSPCA-Angell further noted that “These puppies have been through lots of transitions in their short lives and are looking for a home that can help them figure out the world in a safe and fun way!”

Most of the puppies at the Northeast Animal Shelter came from other out-of-state shelters that are currently experiencing overpopulation at crisis levels.

Now, the MSPCA-Angell — who revealed that “dogs across the country are in trouble” due to the high euthanasia rates — hopes that these adorable pups will soon find an adoptive home. Unfortunately, overpopulation challenges have forced many shelters to resort to euthanization to control their animal population.
