Dog Believed To Be Euthanized up for Adoption in Maryland

A woman from Maryland discovered that her dog, which she believed had been euthanized a year ago due to health issues, is now up for adoption. This unexpected revelation has left the dog owner seeking explanations and yearning to be reunited with her beloved pet.

Woman wants answers after dog believed to be euthanized is alive and up for adoption

Kristie Pereira adopted a puppy named Beau in December 2022, and their bond grew quickly. However, a few months into their companionship, Beau started showing concerning symptoms. As a result, Pereira took Beau to the vet and then to the ER. Following these consultations, she was advised that Beau might have a severe neurological condition. The suggested tests were costly, and with a heavy heart, Pereira made the painful decision to euthanize Beau. According to Fox 5, she was guided by a vet’s opinion on his quality of life. Moreover, Montgomery County Animal Services’ policy prohibited owners from being present during euthanasia.

However, Montgomery County Animal Services conducted their own assessment of Beau and concluded that his condition was treatable. Deciding against euthanasia, they began treatment for what was diagnosed as a liver issue. Not only that, rather than inform Pereira, they opted to return Beau to the original adoption organization.

The discovery of Beau’s survival came as a shock to Pereira, who stumbled upon his adoption listing on Facebook a year later. Confused and hurt, she now seeks clarity on the situation and wishes to have Beau returned to her. Despite her pleas, the adoption agency has informed her that it is against their policy to return surrendered animals to their previous owners.

“I don’t think that someone that just wanted to get rid of the dog would feel anywhere close to how I’m feeling about this and how I have felt about it. Like, none of it was easy,” Pereira said.
