Kind Couple Adopts Missing Dog After Owners Relinquish Him

On Aug. 5, a Michigan couple who had been trying to rescue a missing dog for over a year decided to adopt him. The canine escaped when his previous owners were packing up after their camping trip. After several failed efforts to find the pup, the owners decided to give up and relinquish him to find another loving home after he was rescued. The kind couple then agreed to provide him with a forever home.

Couple adopts missing dog after trying to rescue him for over a year

On Monday, a kind couple working hard for over a year caring for a missing dog decided to adopt him. According to PEOPLE, the Sault Ste. Marie residents had been at it for over a year, having discovered Barley in July 2023. He went missing from Tahquamenon Falls, where he was camping with his parents.

The previous owners did their best to find Barley, making 10-hour trips to the campsite from their home every so often. However, the financial and emotional stress of the situation got to them, and they had to relinquish him. They knew Deanna and Denny Suggitt were still looking for the skittish dog. So, they gave him up, hoping Barley would find a loving home after the couple had trapped the canine.

The skittish dog wasn’t easy to approach, so Deanna had to bring along food. The frequent trips began in August 2023, and she offered him boiled hot dogs, liver, and Pedigree dry food. She gave him two meals daily, and the canine made a run for it after grabbing the food. The food worked because the pup started trusting the kind couple and looking forward to their visits.

Barley was finally captured on July 25, exactly 14 months after escaping the campsite. He was taken to the shelter for further examination before he could be put up for adoption. However, on Monday, the couple decided to adopt the dog that had been missing for over a year to ensure he received the love and care he deserved.
